In a major embarrassment for the Punjab Police, six trainee personnel have been dismissed from service after testing positive for drugs during a dope test at the Police Recruit Training Centre in Jehan Khela, Hoshiarpur.
The test, conducted by the civil surgeon of Hoshiarpur, confirmed that all six individuals were under the influence of narcotics. The police department acted swiftly, terminating their services and sending them back to their respective districts.
The training centre at Jehan Khela is known for its transparent and rigorous screening process, including physical, academic, and medical evaluations. Authorities stressed that the strict action underscores the department's zero-tolerance policy towards substance abuse, especially among law enforcement personnel.
Higher police officials have been informed, and de-addiction protocols may be initiated for the dismissed personnel. DSP Hoshiarpur has also written to the police commissioners and SSPs of the districts concerned, highlighting the need for follow-up and accountability.
The incident raises serious concerns about drug use even among those tasked with upholding the law, especially in a state battling a deep-rooted drug crisis.
